Obituary

William (Bill) Lincoln Hendricksen, 96, of Springdale AR passed away on August 05, 2022. Bill was born on September 02, 1925, to Hans William and Tessie A. (Taylor) Hendricksen in Harrison County Missouri on his grandparent's farm near the town of Mount Mariah. He was raised in Spencer, Iowa and graduated from Spencer High School in 1942. Through the generosity of his Aunt Jean he attended the summer session at Radford State Teachers College in Radford, Virginia where she was a professor. He then attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa for his freshman year. He worked through the summer and was inducted into the Navy in October 1943. After Navy intake testing he was selected to receive three months of Electronics training at the University of Houston. Half of his Outgoing Unit were shipped to Siberia. Bill was assigned to the Boca Chico Naval Air Base in the Florida Keys. He was honorably discharged in May 1946 as an Electronic Technician's Mate Third Class. Bill enrolled at the University of Houston in the fall of 1947, first working nights and attending school in the day. In the summer of 1948 he found a full time day job and finished his degree taking night classes graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in June 1952. During his university years he married Carmen who had a daughter, Shirley. He remained close to Shirley after he and Carmen divorced and loved her as if she was his own daughter. In 1958 he met Margaret Ruth Sparkman on a blind date at a sports car rally. They finished first and were married three weeks later on December 20, 1958. Bill worked for several Engineering and Sales firms before opening his own Manufacturers Representative business in 1966 specializing in custom engineered products primarily for the oil and gas industry. Exhibiting his never-ending kindness to others he was a friend in need to many throughout his life. He held multiple positions in the Full Gospel Businessmen and engaged in a multitude of mission trips, primarily to the Caribbean. He was a spiritual leader, mentor and teacher helping to establish and grow several new churches. He was a member of the Sports Car Club of America, Rotary Club and an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America and was also a Master Gardener. After retirement he continued serving the community working for the Census Bureau, volunteering to prepare taxes for the elderly and was a passionate and devoted blood donor. An avid game player, he could be counted on to join a game of bridge, canasta, 42 or cribbage to name just a few. His first love was the automobile and he also enjoyed fishing and working in his garden. Despite Margaret being allergic to cats there always seemed to be one or two around the house, Tiger and Panther being the most memorable.

Bill is survived by his sons Stuart (Jane) and Jim, his granddaughters Sandra (Brian) and Valerie (Trent) and his grandchildren Dylan, Layla and Charlie.
