Obituary

Susan Rebecca Hinds of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the age of 76, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 26, 1949, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to the late Elbert and Martha Smith. Susan was one of six children and grew up as a spirited tomboy, keeping pace with her brothers. She delighted in having two younger sisters, embracing her role as an older sibling with pride and affection. From an early age, she displayed the independence and strength that would define her life. A lifelong farmer, Susan found purpose in her work. She was rarely without the companionship of her many pets, especially her beloved dog, Hogan, who remained faithfully by her side for 12 years. A devoted fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Oklahoma City Thunder, she carried her loyalty into everything she loved. Susan lived boldly and authentically, expressing herself through a distinctive personal style and an unwavering commitment to being exactly who she was. While her strong convictions were sometimes mistaken for stubbornness, they were rooted in integrity, courage, and deep inner strength. She will be remembered for her generosity, her radiant smile that lit up every room, and her enduring love for her family. Susan was a devoted and loving mother to her two children and cherished her role as a grandmother. She loved hosting her family each year for Christmas and the Fourth of July celebrations, traditions that reflected her joy in bringing loved ones together. Susan was also deeply devoted to her mother and rarely missed their weekly Saturday tradition of picking up groceries, drinking coffee, and visiting together — simple moments that reflected her loyalty, tenderness, and quiet acts of love. She had a special love for babies and took great joy in her many great-nieces and great-nephews, delighting in each new addition to the family and treasuring the time she spent holding, rocking, and loving them. Her warmth, humor, and steadfast presence enriched the lives of all who knew her, and that love was fully returned to her.

Susan is survived by her children, Lisa Casey and Todd of Springdale, Arkansas, and Benjamin "Doug" Hinds of Springdale, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Joel Casey and Kylie of Springdale, Arkansas, and Drew Casey of Springdale, Arkansas; her siblings, George Smith and Patricia Marino of Springdale, Arkansas, Andrew Smith and Sue of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Charles Smith of Springdale, Arkansas; Martha Jo Williams of Jay, Oklahoma, and Jean Ann Combs and Dave of Palo Pinto, Texas; nine nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other beloved family members, friends, and loved ones.

Susan Rebecca Hinds will be remembered for her strength, generosity, and deep love for her family.
