Obituary

Ronald Kay Claussen, 70, of Springdale, Arkansas, formerly of Sterling, Kansas, went to be with the Lord September 14, 2021. He was born November 13, 1950 in Wilson, Kansas, the son of the late Virgil and Thea Vogt Claussen. He was a member of the Crosspoint Sterling Church. He spent his youth on the family farm in Saline County Kansas raising livestock with his dad. Ron was a 1968 graduate of Brookville High School and he attended Fort Hays State University where he met Cynthia Haynes. They were united in marriage on November 17, 1970 and were married for fifty years. Later in life, Ron returned to Fort Hays State to complete his Masters in Education degree.  Ron was a dedicated educator and coach for 35 years in the state of Kansas public school system.  In retirement, he was a volunteer tutor for the Hutchinson Correctional Facility where he helped inmates achieve their GED.  For this work, he was awarded the 2018 Kansas Department of Corrections volunteer of the year award.  He was an avid antique dealer and had a passion for primitive furniture, collectibles, and children's toys.  He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed many outdoor activities like gardening, lawn care and handy man repair work.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Claussen of the home. Three sons, Craig Claussen and wife, Tara, of Springdale, Arkansas, Douglas Claussen and wife, Tamara, of Cambridge, Nebraska, Curt Claussen and wife, Ammie, of Newton, Kansas; brothers, Tom Claussen and wife, Mary Ellen, of Beloit, Kansas, Alan Claussen and wife, Sylvia, of Germany; sisters, Virginia Lynch and husband, Tom, of Glasco, Kansas, Sandra Huenergarde and husband, John, of Salina, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his beloved Cocker Spaniel, Shelby.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M., September 25, 2021 at the Crosspoint Sterling Church, 109 W. Garfield Avenue, Sterling, Kansas. The family request that donations be made to the Alden State Bank for the Ron Claussen Memorial Fund which will be used to support educational programs that Ron was a part of. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home, 3926 Willowood Avenue, Springdale, Arkansas 72762.
