Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Wesley Day, 71, of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 4, 2024 at his home.

Raymond was born April 5, 1953 in Porterville, California, the first-born child of Isaac "Ike" Milton Day and Wanda Lynette "Lyn" Buffington Day.  He was named Raymond after his paternal grandfather, Horace Raymond Day.

Raymond attended school in Exeter, Pixley and one year at Tulare High School in California before the family moved to Springdale in 1969. Raymond became a Springdale High School Red Dog graduating in 1971. After graduation, Raymond joined the Arkansas National Guard serving from 1971-1977 in the 142nd Field Artillery Unit.

Raymond loved hunting and fishing and could toss a mean game of horseshoes.  He was a diehard Arkansas Razorback fan.  He bled RED, and could enlighten you on scores, statistics, and players. He loved going up to his sister's house on "the Mountain" above Winslow. The Mountain meant family, friends, and food, ESPECIALLY Sharon's biscuits which he called "cookies." He loved family history and was always quick to share or learn about his ancestors. He was affectionately called "Grandpa Raisins" by his granddaughters who adored him. He was someone you could count on to be there to help. He was very proud to have attended his granddaughter Kaylie's recent wedding in Oklahoma City, and he just beamed when he held his great grandson, Lincoln, who was also named Wesley.  Being a member of the Shepherd's Chapel Church, his Christian faith was strong and he studied the bible to prove himself worthy.

Raymond was predeceased by his father, Ike Day, grandparents Raymond and Fay Day, Brady and Mary Rosalie Rhoads, wife Dixie Weaver Day, and special lady love, Betty Lewis.  He is survived by his mother Lyn Day; sisters and brother, Sharon Kelley (Bill), Terri Day, and Michael Day (Marsha); four children, sons, Jason Andrew (Christie), James Wesley (Kathryn), daughters, Kelsey Espinoza (Reuben), Megan Koehn (Michael); fourteen grandchildren, Molly, Josie, Winifred, Kaylie, Rylie, Gracie, Liam, Selah, Olivia, Noah, Ryleigh, Jackson, Harley, Ryker; and one great grandson, Lincoln Wesley Rader.  Raymond is also survived by his bonus family; Drew, Katheryn, Whitlee, Brandi, Justin, Amelia, Tad, Mila "Little Britches," Mason, Randi, Renee, Maddox, and Dennis.

Through the donation of his tissue and organs to Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency (ARORA), Raymond continues to help others. The family would like to thank Lyn and Raymond's neighbor, Doug, for his kindness.  A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Raymond and all his antics. He will be greatly missed.

And with that…Ray Day….we tip our hat to you and will see you soon.  We love you, Raymond.
