Maudie Faye Pennington, 88, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024. Maudie was born on February 8, 1936, in Humphrey, Arkansas, to John Edward Martin and Orie Lee Zornes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Allen; her brothers Calvin and Charles Martin; her sisters Shirley Thompson, Vivian Martin, and Ann Owens; and her grandson, Caleb Pennington.
Maudie grew up in the region near Humphrey, where she attended school. When she was an older teenager, Maudie moved to California. While in California, Maudie met Allen Pennington, who had also been born and raised in Arkansas. Allen was the great love of Maudie's life. The couple married on February 8, 1958. They welcomed two sons, Mike and Steve, while living in California, before moving back to Arkansas and settling in Springdale in 1968. Maudie enjoyed traveling with Allen, dining out with her family, and listening to gospel music. She also enjoyed shopping and reading. Maudie was a dedicated Christian woman. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Elm Springs for many years, where she taught Sunday school, and later was a member of Buckner Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
Maudie is survived by her brother Ray Martin of Yakima, Washington; brother-in-law Jim Owens of Huntsville; son, Mike Pennington and his wife, Tricia, of Altus; son, Steve Pennington and his wife, Suzy, of Dover; grandchildren Tish Chiomento and her husband, Mark, of Gloucester, Virginia, Joe Pennington and his wife, Ana, of Bentonville, Josh Pennington and his wife, Haley, of Springdale, Kati Pennington of Dover, and Zach Pennington of Springdale. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Michael Joseph Pennington and John Paul Pennington of Bentonville.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 3926 Willowood Ave., Springdale, Arkansas.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Following the service, interment will be in Drakes Creek Cemetery in Madison County.
