Obituary

Linda Maryann (Logan) Harwell passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on December 26, 2024, after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Detroit to John and Marjorie Logan and grew up in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She attended Wayne State University and finished her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Northern Michigan University.  Upon graduation, Linda began her long career in nursing, serving with distinction everywhere she worked. Her list of employers was long.  Her family joked that she never worked anywhere long enough to get a retirement watch.  She worked as a nurse educator at the Veteran's Administration, the University of Arkansas and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.  Linda was the director of the Har-Ber School of Nursing for five years.  At different times she worked in obstetrics, medical surgery, home health, quality assurance and an office nurse.  An over-achiever and lifelong learner, Linda earned a Master of Nursing Science degree and Master of Education degree and earned credits for her doctorate in education, all of which while working full time and raising three children.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marjorie.  Linda is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles, her sister, Leslie Lievens, and brothers-in-law, Hugh Harwell (Colleen) and Arthur Harwell. Her family was her life. Linda will be greatly missed by her three children, Amy Sankaran (Vivek); Megan; and Shawn (Kristin); as well as her nine beloved grandchildren, Jackson, Cooper, Kiren, Ella, Samir, Corie, Rohen, Isaiah and James. Linda was Grand Bethel Honor Queen of Michigan Job's Daughters as a youth which is how she met the love of her life, Charlie.  She was a member of the Eastern Star, PEO, Sigma Theta Tau (Nurses Honor Society), and the Arkansas Nurses Association which elected Linda as its President in 1994.  A lifelong Presbyterian, Linda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Springdale where she was an elder, a Stephen Minister and member of the Chancel and Handbell Choirs.

Linda had a variety of interests.  She was in several Arts Center of the Ozarks summer musicals.  Linda was an enthusiastic sports fan.  She loved to travel.  She did cross stitch.  At one time Linda owned horses. She loved family camp, particularly the arts and crafts.   Linda loved her church family.  But most of all she enjoyed her children and grandchildren or a quiet evening with Charlie.

A memorial service to celebrate Linda's life will be held at her church, First Presbyterian Church of Springdale on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 2 PM. Services are entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Springdale.
