The personal testimony of Lily Cornwell

“I want to share what the Lord did in my life. In 1974, my life was a disaster looking for a place to happen. I won't get into all the things that was wrong in my life, and the things I was trusting in, trying to make my life happy and prosperous. Everything went wrong. It seemed whatever I did, it never went the way I wanted. It was close to Thanksgiving, and I was on the way to the grocery store. In the parking lot, I thought to myself, "I am just sick of trying to keep up with all the traditions and rush - cleaning and baking," (although I really loved the turkey, and sitting down to eat.) It was the pressure of life itself. I was like, "STOP THE WORLD! I WANT TO GET OFF!" My husband and I went different ways even though we were together. Our children were in their teens. I was just getting bitter and angry at life. I had some friends I grew up with. Every time I saw them in the stores, they were so happy, always smiling. They seemed to have it all together. One day they invited themselves over for lunch. Even though I was not really looking forward to their visit, I made lasagna, and they came. We talked about family and things.

Then I was checking on the kids, and I heard one say that they had gone somewhere to see a CHRISTIAN-MAGICIAN. That word CHRISTIAN was something I just knew I wasn't. But I never forgot that word. They left that day, and never forgot to pray for us at their prayer meeting. I thought to myself, "After the new year, I am going to start going to Church." January 5th came. I got up early and called my Dad because I knew he went to Church every Sunday. He called me back and asked, "Was that you that just called me?" I said "yes." So he picked me up and I went with him. I had such a desire for something spiritual that I took my daughter and went to the church my friends went to that same night. It was like my ears were opened. The preacher talked about Jesus and how He came to Earth to die on the cross to pay the price for our sins so we could have Eternal Life. Wow! That was different than I was used to hearing. I didn't get saved that night. I went home and started reading my Bible. Every opportunity I got I read my Bible. I went to church when I got a chance. I was grabbing at everything that talked about God. I knew there was a God, and His Son Jesus. I had gone to another church growing up when our dad would take us once in a while. I remembered the stories I heard about Jesus.

I invited the preacher to come and talk to us about joining the church. He made a time to come over. My husband, Bob, scooted out somewhere. The preacher gave me a little pamphlet that explained what the church believed what the Bible said. How God the Father sent His Son to die on the cross, and shed His blood to pay for our sins, according to the scriptures. I believed all that. The farther I read, it also said that the Devil was real, and that he wanted to take as many souls to Hell with him as he could. Right then I knew I was not saved. I had never trusted in Jesus Christ to save me and take me to Heaven when I died. It was late, but I was scared. I called my friend's house. Her husband answered the phone. I said, "I am not saved and I don't want to go to Hell." I forget what he said, but the next night Billy Graham was on the television. I listened to his sermon. I don't remember the scripture, but I remember his invitation to receive Jesus Christ as my Saviour. There in my living room, the week of March 16, 1975, l bowed my head and asked Jesus Christ to save my soul and take me to Heaven when I die. Joy flooded my soul, I just cried to think that God would save me - that He cared that much about ME. It was a personal thing. And that is how much He cares about each of us. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.1 Peter 3:9

Finally PEACE I had never known. And it continues right up till this day, and forever. Praise His Holy name. I wouldn't trade what I have for the whole world and all its money. I have everything. I have Jesus Christ living in me. If you have known about God and His Son, or never have, He is waiting to save you. It's that simple. Realize you are a sinner. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Romans 5:8,9

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:9-13 God wants us to know for sure that we have eternal life. These things have | written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13 Thank you for letting me share this with you. I pray that everyone that reads this will receive Jesus Christ as THEIR personal Saviour.”

In the warmth of His love,

 Lily
