Obituary

Lila Scott Buchanan Graue, 97 of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully, February 18, 2020 with her family by her side, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale.  She was born October 17, 1922 to James McGill and Lila Scott Buchanan in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  Lila was a graduate of Buchanan High School, named after the former Tennessee Gov. John Price Buchanan, her grandfather.  Here she was part of the girls basketball team becoming regional champions in 1939.  Later, graduating from Middle Tennessee State College in 1943 with a B.S. in Teaching Certification.

Miss Buchanan married Thomas E. Graue of Johnson, Arkansas in 1944 and moved to Fayetteville.  Here she taught at Fayetteville High School in 1950.  In 1954 they adopted a son, Doug.  Lila was a co-owner and teacher of the College Ave. Nursery and Kindergarten for over 20 years.  She was active in her church, Sequoyah United Methodist, active being an Exchangette in the Exchange Club, and volunteering with the Washington Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.  She and Tom loved RV camping as members of the Razorback Sam`s club.  She was a long-time member of the Ladies` Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering her time and cooking for events and charities.  Known as "B", she was a devoted wife, mother and excellent cook.  Lila has been a much-loved resident of Brookstone Assisted Living since 2012.

She is preceded in death by husband Tom, and brother, James M. Buchanan, Jr., who was an Economics Scholar and Nobel Laureate.  Survived by son and wife, Doug and Sandy Graue, sister Elizabeth Bradley, grand-daughter Chris Graue, nephews Jeff and Jim Worley and great grandchildren Christopher and Ceara.

A graveside service will be 1:00PM, Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fayetteville.
