IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lana Nell
Pettey
July 26, 1946 – May 1, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of Lana Nell Pettey announces her passing after a lengthy illness on May 1, 2019, at the age of 72 years in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born July 26, 1946 to Jesse E Pettey (former WWII Air Force pilot) and the late Carla Bernardi Pettey (Italian war bride.
Lana grew up in Texas where she developed a love for dogs, horses, art and music. She was awarded a scholarship in music at the University of Texas after graduating from Austin H.S. Most of her adult life was spent in Massachusetts and New Hampshire where she was involved in a bluegrass band, sheep dog herding, dog sled racing, weaving, painting, and writing for the local newspaper. She was very active in the NE Border Collie Association and ran a border collie sledding team. Lana was an exceptional dog "person" with great intuition into the canine mind.
After Lana moved back to Texas to be closer to her father, Lana and Moss competed in Texas Barnhunt competitions and held titles through the National Barnhunt Association up through Master level. She also competed successfully in Dock diving with Moss. Her favorite hobbies while living in Texas were her dogs, photography, bird watching, genealogy, jamming, and drawing. She had friends and supporters through her artwork all over the U.S.
Lana will be lovingly remembered by her father, Jesse E Pettey; sisters, Janet (Jeff) Caneen, Carrie Gamble, and brother, Mike Pettey. Lana will also be fondly remembered by three nieces, two nephews, extended family, dear friends, and her beloved dog, Moss. The family wishes to thank all of those "angels" who cared for her during her illness.
A graveside ceremony will be held at the Old North Church Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas, at a later date. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home, 3926 Willowood Avenue Springdale, Arkansas 72762.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Lana to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org).
