Obituary

Judith Sawyer Matthews, 78 of Fayetteville died March 15, 2023. Judith was born a proper young lady with doting older parents on June 21, 1944 in Madison Wisconsin. She grew up in Massachusetts with one older brother Richard Sawyer. Being born on the 1 st day of summer was the perfect birthday for the graceful, gracious, and elegant woman that she became with those beautiful steel blue eyes.

She leaves behind her partner John Johnston, her daughter Daisy and 2 cherished grandchildren, Destiny and Jacob English and older brother Dick.

Judith attended Oberlin College in Ohio. Judith was smart, well educated in manners and propriety.  She also went to a few love-ins and concerts while attending college and let her spirit emerge from captivity.

Judith then lived in California where she owned and managed one of the first copy stores in San Francisco. She was married to Greg Matthews in the woods of Humboldt County on May 1 st 1977 in where she enjoyed growing gardens and tending her goats.

She found her way in the latter 70's to NWA with her then husband Greg.

Judith enjoyed dancing and was a wonderful ballroom dancer. She loved yoga, gardening, nature and had a wicked sense of humor. She also spent time traveling, enjoying her lake house with family and friends, sitting on the dock, swimming, and boating.

Judith also loved music and sang with a women's vocal group ensemble Harmonia for 27 years. She derived great delight from her bridge group, her Mardi Gras group, and her wine and dinner group.

All these various parts of her life provided her with many dear and loving friends who will miss her greatly.

Judith always greeted you with a smile and a heartfelt embrace.  Her wishes are for everyone to celebrate her animal spirit the Blue Heroin, a tall and graceful being, equally enjoying the tranquil shallow waters of earth, and gliding on the wind currents in the sky.

Judith's lasting gift to us all will be her delightful smile upon our soul when we think of her.

A memorial to celebrate Judith's life will be at Unity of Fayetteville 4880 W. Weddington Dr. Fayetteville, AR 72704, Sunday April 30, 2023 at 4:00PM. Memorial Funeral Home of Springdale, AR handled the cremation arrangements.
