Obituary

David (Lucky) Lee Key, age 74, of Elm Springs, Arkansas was Glory bound when he left this earth on September 5, 2024 at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale. He was born on December 19, 1949 in Arkinda, Arkansas to Claude Loren Key and Veatress Morgan Key Wade. As the middle child of his family, David kept everyone laughing with his quick sense of humor, and gift for storytelling.

David is survived by his loving, and devoted wife of 34 years, Mary Bowers Key of the home, three daughters, Melanie Key Wilson (Troy) of Muscle Shoals, AL, Jolene Key Pruitt of Fayetteville, Amy Dalton (Ricky) of West Fork, two sons, Raymond Bowen (Paula) of Fulton, Missouri and Larry Bowen (Heather) of Prairie Grove; 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother Jerry (Mary) Key of Crossroads, and three sisters, Sandra Oglesby of Winthrop AR, Janet Wade of Johnstown, NY, and Sherri Short of Kemah TX, as well as bonus son Ralph Hollingsworth of Prairie Grove.

David is preceded in death by his parents, and loving stepdad, Ben Wade; two brothers James Key, and Claude Key, and two sisters, Reanie Davis and Fran Zyglewicz.

David graduated Foreman High School in 1969. After graduation he moved to Pine Bluff, AR to attend electrician school. While there, David worked as a radio DJ for KCLA. In 1973 he went to work as a Deputy Sheriff for Little River County and then drove for Borden Milk Company. In 1982, David went on the air for KDQN in Dequeen, AR. and then on to KBEL in Idabel, OK. There, he hosted the "David Key Country Music Show" where he was known for his quick wit and fun personality. David also sold airtime to local businesses and wrote commercials, often using humor throughout his ads. He was an accomplished bass fisherman who enjoyed competing in tournaments throughout the Ark-La-Tex region.

In 1987, David and his two young daughters moved to Northwest AR. He attended Healing Word Tabernacle Church where he accepted Christ as his Savior and enjoyed singing solos in church. There, he met Mary Eva Bowers, and after two months of dating, they were married.

For the next thirty-seven years he enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family. In 1999, David bought a home on Lake Elm Dale in Elm Springs, AR where he built his "Duck Camp Fishing Retreat". From then on, David was known to friends and family as 'Lucky'. He rented cabins, peddle boats, operated a bait shop and enjoyed meeting new people as a fishing guide. Folks came from all around to stay at Duck Camp, play dominoes and sit around a campfire, listening to Lucky's famous tall tales. In 2014, Lucky and his good friend Jeff Chanky created a prototype designed to make cleaning squirrels faster and easier. It was called 'The Squirrel Cleaning Buddy'. This business venture opened up new opportunities and a whole new group of friends were introduced to Lucky and The Duck Camp Fishing Retreat.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jonathan Parker, Dr. Jared Ennis, Highlands Oncology Group, Circle of Life Hospice, Southtown Sporting Goods, Tony Knight and Professional Air Systems; and special nurse and friend Jennifer Farrar also known to Lucky as "My Jenny".
