IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Laverne
Ross
July 25, 1933 – January 23, 2025
Alice LaVerne Ross, 91-year-old resident of Springdale, Arkansas passed away on January 23, 2025. She was born in Oakfield, Wisconsin on July 25, 1933 to the late Orrie and Florence Wietor Powers. She embraced her Wisconsin roots, and was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan. Alice married William Ross in 1957. They raised their kids in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. When they divorced, Alice went to work as a meat wrapper in a prominent grocery chain for 10 years. Alice later moved to Florida to care for and live with her mother, and the two shared 14 years together, including moves to Texas and eventually Springdale, Arkansas, in 1994. This move to Arkansas brought Alice closer to her daughter and was the beginning of a new chapter in life. Alice was a hard worker and had worked in several jobs over the years, including being a school cafeteria worker, and manager for Braum's fast food. After having 2 knee replacement surgeries, Alice retired. She was still committed to giving back and she continued to volunteer her time for another 10 years, working full time at the Samaritan thrift store in Springdale, with her dachshund, Ginger, by her side. Her tireless dedication to her community earned her the prestigious Call to Service Award from President George W. Bush in 2006, recognizing over 4,000 hours of volunteer service. Alice was a faithful member of Cross Church in Springdale and was cherished by all who knew her.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters; and 6 brothers. She is survived by her sister, Pearl of South Carolina; sons, Bruce Ross and his wife, Betty, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Mike Ross, and his wife, Cassie, of Victor, New York; daughter, Kathy Walther, and her husband, Hugh, of Springdale, Arkansas; grandchildren, Derek Ross of West Sand Lake, New York, Erin Jafrani and her husband, Sameer, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Darcy Ross of Macedon, New York, Kimberly Piszczek and her husband, Luke, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Lyla, Mia, Zoey, Jake, Collyn; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends across the country.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 26 at Memorial Funeral Home.
Following the service there will be a potluck lunch at New Hope Fellowship at 850 S Gene George Blvd in Springdale. Everyone is welcome.
